What do Women really want???

One of my very close friends forwarded the below story and I found it very interesting, so thought of putting it here...

To all my girl friends: Please take time to ponder

To all my guy friends: Enjoy the story....

Young King Arthur was ambushed and imprisoned by the monarch of a neighboring kingdom. The monarch could have killed him but was moved by Arthur's youth and ideals. So, the monarch offered him his freedom, as long as he could answer a very difficult question. Arthur would have a year to figure out the answer and, If after a year, he still had no answer, he would be put to death. The question was: What do women really want?

Such a question would perplex even the most knowledgeable man, And to

young Arthur, it seemed an impossible query. But, since it was better than death, He accepted the monarch's proposition to have an answer by year's end.

He returned to his kingdom and began to poll everyone: The princess, the priests, the wise men, and even the court jester.. He spoke with everyone, but no one could give him a satisfactory answer. Many people advised him to consult the old witch, For only she would have the answer. But the price would be high as the witch was famous throughout the kingdom for the exorbitant prices she charged.

The last day of the year arrived and Arthur had no choice but to talk
to the witch. She agreed to answer the question, but he would have to agree
to her price first.

The old witch wanted to marry Sir Lancelot, The most noble of the Knights
of the Round Table, And Arthur's closest friend! Young Arthur was horrified. She was hunch-backed and hideous, had only one tooth, Smelled like sewage, made obscene noises, etc.

He had never encountered such a repugnant creature in all his life. He refused to force his friend to marry her and endure such a terrible burden, But Lancelot, having learnt of the proposal, spoke with Arthur. He said nothing was too big of a sacrifice compared to Arthur's life. And the reservation of the Round Table. Hence, a wedding was proclaimed and the witch answered. Arthur's question thus: 'What a woman really wants?'

She said, 'Is to be in charge of her own life.'

Everyone in the kingdom instantly knew that the witch had uttered a great truth. And that Arthur's life would be spared. And so it was. The neighboring monarch granted Arthur his freedom. And Lancelot and the witch had a wonderful wedding.

The honeymoon hour approached and, Lancelot, steeling himself for a horrific experience, entered the bedroom. But, what a sight awaited him. The most beautiful woman he had ever seen lay before him on the bed. The astounded Lancelot asked what had happened.

The beauty replied that since he had been so kind to her when she appeared as a witch, She would henceforth be her horrible and deformed self only half the time. And the beautiful maiden the other half.

'Which would you prefer? She asked him. 'Beautiful during the day .... or at night?'

Lancelot pondered the predicament.

During the day he could have a beautiful woman to show off to his friends,
But at night, in the privacy of his castle, an old witch!

Or,

Would he prefer having a hideous witch during the day?
But by night a beautiful woman for him to enjoy wondrous, intimate moments with?

(If you are a man reading this...) What would YOUR choice be?

(If you are a woman reading this) What should YOUR MAN'S choice be?

What Lancelot chose, is given below:

BUT... make YOUR choice before you scroll down below... OKAY?

Noble Lancelot, knowing the answer the witch gave Arthur to his question, He said that he would allow HER to make the choice herself. Upon hearing this, she announced that she would be beautiful all the time. Because, he had respected her enough to let her be in charge of her own life.

Now... what is the moral to this story?

The moral is...

1) There is a witch in every woman no matter how beautiful she is!

2) If you don't let a woman have her own way, things are going to get ugly.

So, always remember:

IT'S EITHER 'HER WAY' OR IT'S 'NO WAY' !!!

My Favorite Recipes: Pasta Salad, Caprese Salad, Vegetarian Shepherd's Pie

I don't know I am not usually a food blogger, but the vegeterian shepherd pie, I tried couple of days back wanted me to write this one..hehehe...I am not a recipe by measurement person, so most of my recipes won't include exact measurement of things to put it...If you still need exact measurement, let me know and next time I will try to remember it and update this blog accordingly..Also next time I will remember to take pictures of them to upload here...So here are my favorite non indian recipes so far:

Pasta Salad:
This is one of my and Priyanka's favorite italian/meditterean dish and now some of our friends too...It is very simple to make and different variations are possible and everytime it turns out just as delicious...
You could use penne pasta, or tri color rotini or shell pasta or combination of three. Cook pasta as usual, I normally take a big pot of boiling water and add pasta, salt and little bit oil to it. Do not overcook the pasta, otherwise they would taste sticky...After boiling for about 8-10 minutes depending on the amount of pasta(check the cooking time on the box), drain the pasta and add about 2-3 tbsp of olive oil(My favorite is bertoullis so far). Add garlic salt and crushed black peper, and some cut basil(I love fresh basil for all my italian dishes). Mix the pasta and let it refrigerate(half hour to one hour is sufficient). In the meantime, cut long thing stripes of about 2 tomatoes, 3/4 red onion, 1/2 red capsicum(bell pepper), 1/2 yellow capsicum(bell pepper) and 1/2 green capsicum(green pepper), 1/2 cucumber if you like. Mix all these with the refrigerated pasta. Add about 5-6 tbsp of fat free feta cheese with mediterrean herbs. Add olive oil, salt and pepper and some lemon as per taste. Add about 10-12 (or more if you like) ripe pitted olives. Mix well..You can garnish it with more basil and some coriander.
Some variations can be adding salad dressings( my favorites are fat free italian, fat free ranch, french onion) or adding jalapenoes, fried onions etc.

Caprese Salad:
This italian recipe if another of our favorites.
You need fresh mozzarella cheese, baby or roma tomatoes and basil.
You can drain the mozzarella cheese out of the box and cut it into about 1/4" thick round slices. Cut the tomatoes into same size if using Roma tomatoes other cut the baby tomatoes into half...
On a plate arrange the cheese and tomatoes alternatively in a circle....
Cut about 10-12 basil leaves and spread on the plate....Sprinkle about 3 tbsp oliveoil, garlic salt mix, salt and pepper and little bit of lemon juice.

Vegeterian Shepherd's Pie:
I had never heard of Shepherd's pie till we visited "The Londoner" for one of our friday lunches from work...About 50% of my colleagues had ordered that dish...It was beef and some potatoes..Over the weekend at Barnes and Nobles I came across a vegan cooking book and found vegeterian shepherd's pie recipe and it was so simple, I thought I did give it a try...I googled the recipe next day and found several versions, I made a variation of my own and it turned out yummy....It all healthy and nutritious too...

You will need the following:
5-7 slices of french bread
Mixed lentils(tuver, masoor, chana, split green peas) about 1.5 cups soaked for about 3-4 hours
Potatoes(Idaho variety works good so does russell)-about 5-6
Tomatoes-3-4 (cut them into about 1/4 x 1/4 cubes or even smaller is fine)
Red Onions-1 or 1.5(cut them into about 1/4 x 1/4 cubes or even smaller)
Green, Red and Yellow Capsicum(bell pepper), (cut them into about 1/4 x 1/4 cubes or even smaller)
Garlic 3-4 cloves or more if u like
Fat free sour cream about 3 tbsp
cheese- 1/4 cup or more if you like
coriander- as much as you like
wheat or cornflour- 4 tbsp
garam masala-1 tbsp
ginger
turmeric powder, chilly powder, dhania powder and salt

Soak the dals together and then boil them in an open pot till it thickens and most of the water has vanished...
Make dal fry style dal with it...My recipes is take oil, fry finely chopped garlic and ginger, mix in the onions(leave about 1/4 for potatoes mixture), and all the three capsicums(leave about 1/4 for the potatoes mixture) and saute till onions turn brown..add the flour and let it will with the veggies..after a paste is formed, saute in the tomatoes(leave about 1/4 of them for the potatoes mixture). Add the dal to the pan. Let it mix for sometime, add garam masala, salt, turmeric, chilly(you can use fresh green chilles too) and dhania powder. let it boil and thicken into a paste.
Add coriander if you like to the paste

In the meantime, boil the potatoes and mash them after removing the skin..add cheese, sour cream, salt, pepper, some olive oil if you like and the remaining onions, capsicum and mix well..

Heat the oven around 300, in a baking pan, spray with cooking canola or olive oil. spread the french toast at the bottom, spread the dal mixture on it and top with a layer of the potato mixture. You can sprinkle bread croutons powder or fried onions at the top if you like. Let it bake for atleast 20-25 minutes...

The potatoes layer at the top will turn slight brown.........

You are ready to eat now...Yummy..

When I read the recipes, most of the people said they wished they had made more to be eaten as a leftover and I think I wish the same..It was so yummy we finished most of it that night...:)
If you guys are aware of dhanshaaaaak, it is similar to that with addition of toast on the bottom and potatoes at the top.....

Now lets help someone else for a change....

I have been thinking about writing for this for a while now. Finally I got the moment to put down my thoughts...

I want to send this message specially to people like me, who have already graduated from school( yeah thats wat they call here, even if u do your masters, it is still called that you are going to school...;)) and are working currently...I think we have had enough months to earn money and save a little bit for a good cause.....There are two things I absolutely love doing....

KIVA
According to its website..Kiva is the world's first person-to-person micro-lending website, empowering individuals to lend directly to unique entrepreneurs around the globe.
I love this concept...Basically you register at the site and then you find people you are interested in loaning money to..You can look people up by the country, or the work they do or the amount of loan needed or the repayment terms. They are basically enterpreneurs in underdeveloped countries, who cannot apply for loans from the government..You basically loan to them and they repay your loan back...There is very little chance of delinquency, so in most cases you get your money back, depending on the repayment term the enterpreneur has...With the money you get back, you can either lend it to someone else or even withdraw it....I loved this concept and have been a fan of KIVA since last few months...I encourage all of you who are capable to spare few hundred dollars to visit their site at http://www.kiva.org and start lending....You can start with as little as $25....

Humane Society of the United States
According to their website....The Humane Society of the United States is the nation's largest and most effective animal protection organization—backed by 11 million Americans, or one in every 28

Their mission is Celebrating Animals, Confronting Cruelty...

I initially joined them when someone sent me an email regarding the cruel treatment of animals and below was the website to sign the petition...I have been excited for the work they do ever since. Recently they had worked to prevent the killing of seal babies in canada...There are couple of things you can do here..You can sometimes donate some amount, can start with as little as $5, at other times, you can help by signing the petition or sending letters to your US representative( Don't worry you don't have to write actual letter, there is a written letter, you just need to sign in with your name) to take actions against the cruelty of animals....Whether you are vegeterian or a non vegeterian, I am sure you would not prefer the cruel treatment of animals...If you are interested let me know and I can forward you some of the emails from Humane Society......

Together we can acheive peace and happiness in this world..........

Equity, Equality and Egocentrism..

I was reading a book and something the author said just struck me....Here it goes..

For example :

You are working 7 hours and paid 25 dollars. You have another colleague who is working 10 hours. You feel they should be paid about 30 dollars for the work since they are working 3 more hours....

Now, the situation is reversed. One of your colleagues is working 7 hours and is paid about 25 dollars and you are working 10 hours and you expect to be paid 35.7 dollars............

Quite interesting..isn't it...when it is someone else, its ok to be unfair, but when it is you, you want all the fairness in the world.....

Another example the author gave was:

You are job applicant...You are offered a job by two companies..Company A and Company B.

You come to know that you have been offered 75,000 by company A and another colleague at company A is offered 95,000.

With company B, you have been offered 72,000 and another colleague is also offered 72, 000...

Which job will you take???

I will look forward to your answers on this one..as this will give me an insight on the authors view......

Priyanka's Surprise Birthday Party- 7th June 2009

Sunday, 7th June 2009 was priyanka's 22nd and the 1st birthday in the USA, so I wanted to make it special for her. I talked to one of my friend's sunny about the idea to have a surprise birthday party and then the rest happened. The party would have been impossible without friends like Chintan, Prashant and Sunny, who helped me with everything from the food to the plans and without the support and presence of friends like Dhavnit, Nileshbhai, Nimishabhabhi, Disha,Mira, Mitul and Nirav. Mira was a special guest since she has just arrived as a surprise from australia couple of days back on friday, so on friday when she called me up about her surprise arrival, I told her about the party and requested that she definitely had to be there. I sent out an email to all our common friends about the party and told them not to mention to priyanka. I tried getting number's of Priyanka's UTD's friends, but she always kept the phone close to her, so it made it impossible to get those numbers. Luckily, I had one of her friend's , Meghal's number when she initially came to the states and had no phone of her own. I knew he was in florida, but called him up to get mitul's number, to know which of her friends are in town and who would come...Still I could not get everybody because of the lack of phone number, so from her UTD group on Mitul and Nirav were able to make it...

It all started on friday night, Nileshbhai had a booth at the frisco mela and had asked for priyanka's help with the stuff, so she was planning to stay at their place friday night..I went and got the basic things for the party like plates, cake bowl etc..make come in the night and baked the cake..I figured if it was going to be a total surprise I will have to make two cakes for her, one for cutting at midnight and the other for cutting at noon during the surprise party...On saturday morning I woke up early and went shopping to buy gifts for her and then to the indian store, kroger and walmart to get the groceries and all the needed stuff...Priyanka was little bit fishy that I was not with her at the event, but I told her I had to go to arlington to get the quotes from the dealers since my car was hit a month back...So she agreed and I had decided to save all the food at Forestglen 55( Sunny, chintan, dhvanit and prashant's place and my second home in dallas), so after the eventful shopping day I reached their place around 6:30 and we started asap..Had to cut the leaves of coriandar for undhiya, cut the paneer cubes and fry them and then make the chapati flour....All of us were at work constantly and we finished making the total rasoi, udhiyu, mutter paneer and puri's(some puri's were still left, but I had to reach home by 12 since priyanka was returning from the frisco mela at that time and so we would celebrate at midnight, prashan'ts cousin dhawal had made all the gourna's and chintan had pressed all the puris and then he fried the remaining puris) around 11:15 pm....and I worked to decorate the cake...Finally I finished decorating the cake and left for home..Reached home around 12:15 and priyanka had just reached 5 minutes before me..so she cut the butter pecan, almond and fruit cake I made for her that afternoon and then we cleaned up the home a little bit, talked and slept around 3 am...

The next morning I woke up early and made rice and stored in the laundry room so she could not find out, made some gaucamole, and then went to the indian store to get the ras and yogurt for making chaas and kadhi..When I came priyanka was already awake and I told her Nileshbhai is coming home around 11:30 to wish her and collect the GPS she had brought the day before with her. She asked me why I brought so many ras cans and I was like, because this is new indian store, they are only available in quantities..Being naive, she totally believed me..I made a jugful of chaas and she was like why did u make so much and I explained that we could drink chaas throughout the day..I told her she should get ready since we planned to eat out for dinner..In the meantime I made kadhi....Around 12, Sunny, chintan, prashant, dhvanit, mira, mitul and nirav arrived and entered the apt..Priyanka was totally surprised....She was still unaware of the food and the cake prepared....Finally when nileshbhai arrived she cut the cake and then she was covered in chocolate from the cake decorations. After that we started eating the ras, puri, undhiyu, mutter paneer, bateta vada, chaas, papad, kadhi and rice...

After we finished eating we cleaned up and then talked and played slide5(amazing card game) till about 7 in the eve....It was a great weekend and the fun would have been impossible without such a group of good friends like Sunny, Prashant, Chintan, Dhvanit, Disha, Mira, Nileshbhai, Nimishabhabhi, Mitul and Nirav...Thanks you'all for making the party such a fun.....

Colorado Trip- Memorial Weekend..

I will reserve this spot for the wonderful colorado trip we had during the memorial day long weekend. I will update the information as soon as I get some time....

Driving Fear...

I didn't realize it initially, but ever since my minor accident couple of weeks ago, I suddenly am scared of people driving in the cars behind me. I know I have control over the cars in front of me, since I trust my brakes quite well, but the people driving behind me, now when they come close, I am all scared that they might run into my car. Also when people do not show indicators and cross lanes or drive at high speed when the traffic is slow ahead, makes me think, is it the same place I have been driving for 3 years? Why does all of a sudden everything seem so different? Why are people so less courteous of other drivers..If you are in a hurry, why didn't you actually wake up early, so that your hurry, doesn't delay(because in a hurry you would drive so weird, that the chances of accident are quite likely) the other people who woke up on time to reach their destination on time. If you really have to do makeup, why don't you do it from home, or do it in the parking lot of your office rather than scaring people by applying makeup while driving!!!!!!!!!!!! In one word, RIDICULUOUS is the world here..........

Serenity...

Earlier sometimes, when I used to be stressed out, my best bet was to put on my headphones and meditate. One of the meditations I like is chakra meditation. When I was in my teens, I had learned Siddhi Samadhi Yoga(SSY), which taught a meditation similar to this. Also my parents being much involved in pranic healing acquainted me with this form of meditation which is a savior in almost all situations. This meditation visualizes the various chakra colors and we cleanse and purify the chakras and thus our energy.

These days in addition to meditating couple of times a week during the lunch break, I have joined an aerobics boot camp, where we practice kickboxing and ab workout, which is a highly recommended stress reliever. My instructor there is highly motivating and I am always eager to attend that class.. The other days of the week, I have started practising Yoga at the local gym...This yoga is different from the ones I learnt in India, but it is quite good. Within 10 minutes of the start, everybody in the class is sweating like anything. It has made me more flexible and helped me with gaining balance during my ab workout in my kickboxing class...I also went for the dancing class once, and plan to schedule it in my routine soon...

My sister recently attended a beginner's class on ART OF LIVING and she absolutely loved it.

BE ACTIVE...BE POSITIVE........ BE HAPPY........

Volunteering at National Rebuilding Together

25th April was the National Rebuilding Day where University of Michigan, Dallas Alumni Club decided to volunteer. Being part of the Alumni Club, I found out about the opportunity and was quite excited since this was going to be my first volunteer work experience in the USA. One of my friends Nileshbhai and I registered as a volunteer for the UM Alumni club. It was a saturday morning and we were suppose to assemble at the place around 8 am, so I woke up early quite excited about the opportunity. My excitement had two reasons, first it was an unselfish work which I would be doing, that would make someone happy and the other reason was to meet fellow wolverines. Its been almost three years since I move to Dallas, Texas from Ann Arbor, Michigan, but I miss Michigan a lot since I have some of the loveliest memories there...

The house we were assigned belonged to a 90- year old lady. She was very nice and friendly. The week before some other group had helped clean up the interior rooms and organize things inside. Our assignment was cleaning from the outside like the car garage, the backyard, painting the house exteriors, weathering the windows etc. We assembled in front of the house around 8 am and introduced each other and started working. Initially we started with garage, there was hardly any space to walk into the backyard since the garage was full of stuff. We threw away lot of items and kept some, which were her fond memories like a rocking chair of her grandmother etc.

Next when there was enough space to reach the backyard, we went there and started working on it. It looked like it had not been taken care of for years..The grass and the trees were overgrown. Some of us started cutting the trees while others picked up the twigs and big branches so that it would be easier for the lawn mower to work.

It was fun, but scary at times when we encountered small snakes on our paths...Finally we managed to clean up everything in the backyard and it looked beautiful....completely different from what we had started on....

The next work for painting the exterior house. We needed to apply the primer initially and then once the primer was settled for an hour, we could start painting. We divided into two groups, one group was working on the front part and the other group was working on the back side.

Over the door, it was difficult to reach from the ladder, so someone climbed on the roof to get to it..The enthusiasm of people to work and help was tremendous. It was a pleasure to be a part of such an enthusiastic group..

Around noon all of us were hungry and were waiting for the pizza which had been ordered. We ate the pizza and in the meantime, the primer had dried so we started the painting operation. I painted the entrance door and the lady came out to show us one of her pictures as a flight attendant. It was a beautiful pic.

Some of the volunteers were working on painting the floor in one of the rooms where the carpet had been peeled off..We were almost done, when someone remembered we needed to paint the fireplace. So we started working on the fireplace...It was about 3:30 pm and we were done, with paints on our jeans, hands and t-shirts....The house looked beautiful and totally different from the morning when we started working on it.

It was a great satisfaction to be helpful to somebody in this way....I have decided to look for more volunteering opportunities in the future.

Turner Falls - A much needed break

My sister Priyanka, had a spring break last week. Most of the time we spent in cleaning the house so at the end of the week, we were all in need of a well deserved break..One of her school friend was visiting us during the weekend. Friday evening when I reached home, our friend Nileshbhai, called us if we wanted to go see some movie...Desiring the much needed break, we agreed and went to see last chance Harvey...Its an Ok kind of movie..Too dramatic..I loved hearing the English and Irish accents...After the movie we went to eat at chipotle and finally went home where Disha and Sapan joined us..While sitting, I was telling them, how it would be a good idea to take a break..All of us were probably enough stressed in the week, that the idea of the break sounded tempting and was met with zero resistance except for one of our friends, sunny who could not join us because of his schedule..So there, on a friday night around 11 pm we decided to head to Turner Falls in Oklahoma and stop by Winstar Casino on the way back..Having been to Turner Falls in Nov 2007, I knew it would be a good place for a picnic, but the fun we had outgrew my expectations, because last time when I visited it was cold winter time and this was the spring season... Most of the friends in the group have know each other for atleast couple of years now and we are very compatible group..Friday night after deciding the final plan nileshbhai, bhabhi, disha and sapan departed my place around 1 am..Next day we were on the way to Oklahoma falls around 8 am..Strangely enough, disha was the first one to wake up amongst all of us and also disha and sapan reached on time at nileshbhai's place..The drive was good, about 2 hours from my place...Pretty much most of it on 35ENorth with the last few miles being scenic. Once we reached the area, we went to the scenic overlook, which we had missed last time. It was beautiful seeing the falls, the castle and the surrounding areas from the top...

Seeing the falls from the top, we all knew in our hearts, we had made the right decision to come to this place...
We entered the turners fall park area..drove through the beautiful scenic sites and flooded water bridge....
We parked our car at the parking to go the falls...It was almost 11:30 and most of us were hungry...So being obvious, we decided to cross the river side and picnic on one of the benches overlooking the river..That morning, I had a chance to cook some pulaav rice for all of us, and disha had brought lots of snacks, so we took all the food we were planning to eat from the car trunk and headed towards the picnic tables crossing the river carefully by stepping on the rocks....

I think treading through the moving river made us forget about how hungry we were and start on the adventure ride...Some of us were involved in playing catching with a small tennis ball sapan had brought along..Some of us were busy in posing for photographing...and so that triggered the reaction of messing into each other business which started with all the crazy idea of throwing ball on the people in the group posing for photos and them throwing the unwanted ball into the river and then people trying to rescue the ball from the river waters...The water in general looked quite good, but at the sides there were some moss, which made going to the river edge to get the ball quite yucky and throwing the ball quite entertaining...

After we had enough of the play sessions, our stomachs were hurting with hunger..So finally we decided to eat the yummy pulaav ;)..It was drizzling a little bit while we were eating, but no one cared...Everyone was so hungry, that there was hardly any noise while we were eating...Also it started to get a little bit cold, since the sun was hiding in the clouds and the water drizzles made the air chilly...Once we were done eating, we went our way back crossing the river to drop off the containers as well as the trash..Finally most of us also picked up jackets from our cars. On the way back, we decided to go to the falls, through the river, stepping on the water and the stones and having fun with the splashes. We showed each other way and helped to pass through places which were quite slippery sometimes...

And so finally we reached the destination...heheh..the falls....Amazing and beautiful as always..A regular walk of 10 minutes was extended into an hour and half fun treading through the river for all of us....Seeing the falls, the first thought, disha and I had was the water was less, comparative to what we saw when we went there in Nov 07, but the water has its own beauty and charm...We were mesmerised by the falls...

We enjoyed the view for quite a while and then decided to take the hike for the caves and view of the top..It was a wonderful adventure, not difficult at all, but fun stepping on the rocks and finding the way through the mountains...we reached a beautiful cave on the top, which had some dangerous pathways, which lead to the top of the falls..Sapan was more adventurous than us all and decided to go there..I am sure the view was heavenly from that place as I could judge from the photos he took from there...We decided to move on talking and walking and admiring the nature..The weather was getting better with no sun, but no rain too, so there were more people coming onto the top...We saw the sight of other small falls and the river and then some tents were visible at a our distance which pinched our curiousity and we decided to go to the river...now we had reached the top and to go to the river, it was a downhill climb, and the route was not normal...so we had to find rocks and paths on our own to reach the bottom, most of it was not bad, except the final one, which was a long rock and thus needed a jump or some support from someone at the bottom to actually reach the end...finally all of us did it..yahooooooooooo....The river reminded me of the river bias in manali, which rocks and water treading its way.....the water had not been much since it was still the start of summer and we did not have much rainfall yet, so that enabled us to jump from rock to rock inside the river and keep on going.....finally after about 2 long hours, some of us felt hungry and tired...so we decided we will head back.....and thus came back again to the falls.....the joy of being one step closer with nature was fantastic...finally after reaching the main falls again, we decided to sit at the main rock of the falls and observe the falls..by that time there were lots of people bathing in the water falls..we also saw a tortoise inside from the rock, which was funny since I was out of water on the rock, but would have been scary if I had been inside..hehehe..

Finally Nileshbhai and Sapan, decided to be more adventurous and climb the rocks from where the water was falling...It was a dangerous climb, though lots of kids were already there, but I think the adventure was worth it...

It was around 5 pm and we decided we will start heading home, since we had plans to stopby at the Winstar Casino...Winstar casino is big, I have been there about 3 times now, but this was the first time, i actually saw the other areas past the front region where we normally play on the 25cents machine..They have made the interiors like paris, beijing beautiful...I had put few dollars and had won about 40 dollars till I lost is all again...But isnt that what casinos are meant for?? Loosing?? Did someone actually win something???(Huh, well if that someone is smart enough to cash out before they start loosin yeah.........)

Overall a fantastic trip and I would look forward to more trips like this in future...

XOXO

Mixed Emotions and Story of Change in a Foreign Country

Most of my friends, who have known me from India, believe I have changed a lot. Ofcourse they say its all for the better...I feel this change myself noticeably evident in my thoughts and actions...The once shy, quiet and traditional girl now reflects an aura of confidence and independence....This must have been a smooth transition process because I hardly realized this happening....

When I first came to USA in August 2004, I had hardly gone to the bank about couple of times in my life (the last one being to get the travellers cheque's since they require your presence and signature to issue those cheques), had never written a cheque, had never used a credit card or an ATM, had never filled petrol in my activa or kinetic, had never driven car in the traffic areas like the city, had never made my own bed, had never washed my clothes or cleaned my utensils, had never made any buying decision alone, had never been confused on what to cook etc.. and the list goes on and on....I remember when my uncle first took me to a bank, I asked them how to write a check..My uncle and aunt showed me to how to use the ATM, to withdrawn the cash or deposit the cheque(Depositing a cheque is still something I prefer doing at the bank in front of a live person)...When my uncle took me to the shopping mall to buy comforter set for my bed in my new apt, I asked him which one should I buy and there he taught me an invaluable lesson for life. He teached me, now that I was in a country, where everyone is independent, I should be making my own decisions...and thats how the process of own decision making started in my life...Still, sometimes I would call up my parents or my friends and ask them what they think about the things I buy...I remember buying my first own 60$ camera, not a branded one, and I had emailed my old friend in india back and forth, just to make sure I was making the right decision.....so the change was not all of a sudden atleast I would think....But then the number of decisions to make kept on increasing from buying an ipod to driving to canada to visit an old friend and see niagra falls, to present at a SWE conference in Anaheim california, to work as a intern, to take up research, to visit india, to graduate, to look for a job, to deal with customers, to live in a foreign country called slovenia (whose name I had never heard before)for 3 months, to travel in Europe, to rent an apartment and the time available to make these decisions kept on decreasing...forcing me to making my own life decisions fast...taking full responsibility of my actions...

I don't know when I changed from the Bhumika, who thought its ok for a girl to live at home and not work, to bhumika who believes every individual is responsible for their own self and can make their own decisions on how they choose to live their life. Gender should have no influence on whether you want to work or cook!! If I was still living in India, I would have considered divorce is wrong, that should never happen, being in the independent land, my views have changed to, you live once, if both of you are not happy in the life you are living, it is better to separate and live a happy life rather than live under the same roof in pain for the sake of others( the society), who are not even your family and have no right to interfere in what you do is your personal matter. These views might be considered too modern and liberal by the still conservative, male generation of my birth land..

I wish friends and families in my home country, India, become more respectful of girls and encourage them to acheieve their dreams...The culture of a country is never lost by individuals voicing their opinions....Infact, the spirit of culture becomes more strong when you have the liberty to decide what is right and what is wrong for self.....

Astrology and character traits....

I believe in horoscopes and sometimes I get confused with the compatability reading between different signs.. I am a leo and I wonder if leo's do not do so well with signs like Gemini, Cancer and Scorpio, why do I have majority of my list of best or close friends falling under the sign? One thing that has fascinated me in the last couple of years is how astrology works. How are they able to predict a person's nature just by the configurations of the planets on the day they were born...How wearing certain stones makes you lucky or helps you nullify the bad influence of the planetary positions on your life...Can this happen? Is is true? Well, I do not know if I fully believe in stones and their influence, but I had this ruby ring as a gift on one of my birthdays and have always thought of it as my lucky charm..Things in life have changed for the better after wearing that..Now, maybe the things were destined to change and thus changed, but somehow I just noticed them after wearing this..But then what is destiny..How can you be destined for something..Why do some people get all the things in life without working for it and why do some people work so hard and still get no results..Being born in India, I had been introduced to the Karma theory since birth and now I see people in the west believing in it too... Do good and u get good in return, but still how much good things you get would depend on your past karma? So then, I would say its unpredictable how much good or bad things/experiences you would get in life!! Well not really sometimes, if you believe in astrology..The other day I ordered some reports from this website called astrology.com, believe me, the astrologers there know what they are doing! I mean, I got this real you reading and it said all things about me, which I usually ignore or would not like to believe existing...So, the day I was born and the time I was born, actually makes the nature I have today..Like if I am very social, it is not because I want to be social but its because I have been born under that planetary confirguration which makes me social..Wow!! amazing huh...Well, so I have been pondering about these things for a while now and during one of the discussions with my close friends, one of whose father happens to be a gynaec surgeon told me, these days instead of the natural birth of the child when it would occur, parents like to have their babies delivered at some particular time which they have confirmed with their astrologers to be the most auspicious time..Now,one thing I keep thinking about is, what if in the future all the babies are born on such days that they are always going to be lucky and rich, how would the basic economic theory of supply and demand hold? Can everyone be rich and lucky at the same time?
